Battle Heroes X: Army of Darkos is an RPG game developed by Vortex Factory and published by Vortex Studios. It is the first in the trilogy of RPG games based around the Battle Heroes X series. It was released for PC on June 6th, 2009 and it was a PC exclusive up until the release of Battle Heroes X: Army of Darkos Golden Edition, which was supposedly released for the PSP. Golden Edition was then followed up with another "Edition" release called Battle Heroes X: Army of Darkos Remix Edition, the version released for Battle Heroes X: The Full Trilogy. Remix Edition, however, only happens to be an update of the Golden Edition of Battle Heroes X: Army of Darkos, as it contains updated graphics and the addition of achievements

Storyline Edit

Storyline: The dark lord Darkos, conqueror of galaxies, sets his eyes on the Milky Way to try and take it over, consulting his Magical Stone of Foresight. The stone says that if he tries to take over the galaxy, he will be defeated by the three heroes of Earth. Hoping to change his fate, he devises a plan to catch the three. After catching Cloud, Zack, and Julius, Darkos wipes their memory of being captured and bribes the warden of the maximum security prison Fowler Prison to keep them their until he can successfully take over the Earth. The game starts with the player playing as Cloud waking up in his cell. Looking around, he hears a voice from the cell next to him, the voice belonging to Jim, a immortal being who helps with giving tutorials, but he is also revealed to be the Time Lord Clocko later on in the game. Jim gives Cloud a quick tutorial on moving around and using his telekinesis to escape his cell and free Jim. After searching around undetected, they find Zack and Cloud frees him as well. Finally looking for Julius, the three find him in another section of the prison. Once the three get to his cell, they are attacked by two guards, Jim giving Cloud and Zack temporary energy weapons to fight the guards with, also giving them a quick tutorial in basic combat. Finally freeing Julius, the three are confronted by the Warden and his elite guard. Engaging in battle with the guard, Jim gives them a tutorial on ultimate and special attacks. After getting even more guards after the guards are defeated, Jim, Julius, Cloud, and Zack escape through a hatch in the wall, leading them to the basement of the prison, where Jim says their weapons are being hidden. Exploring around with the help of Jim and after a lesson on saving games, they find their weapons, blocked by a guard. After the mini-boss, the three get their weapons and Zack teleports them to the top of the prison. Just as they're going to board the space ship landed there, the Warden appears, getting into his battle mech and telling Julius, Zack, and Cloud about why they were captured and that Darkos is paying him top dollar to keep the 3 imprisoned. After explaining, the Warden fires a missile at Jim, seemingly killing him. The three, enraged at the loss of their friend, fight the Warden, beating him, then escaping on the space ship.

After escaping Fowler Prison, Julius accidentally crashes the space ship on a sandy planet Julius nicknames "Planet Darude". After barely escaping the planet's harsh environment and seeking refuge in a cave, the trio stumble upon Fowler Town, a civilization of other people who crash landed on the planet. Jim, having been revived somehow, gives the trio a tutorial on maps before disappearing. After exploring a bit, the three find out that Darkos has control over some parts of the town and they decide to rid the town of Darko's grasp by doing quests and such. The last quest has them attack Darko's minions in a cave trying to sacrifice a towns-person to revive a monster, but Cloud, Zack, and Julius stop them before falling down a hole. Landing in another cavern, the three go through and find out that the cave lead them right under the sandstorm and they exit, on the other side. Then they are attacked by a monster that seems to be the thing creating all the sand, narrowly defeating it with their combined power. As the cave they were battling in starts to collapse, the three attempt to escape via Zack's teleportation, which backfires and sends them to another planet, plus scatters them around it.

Transported and scattered on a distant planet from the last they were, the player chooses who they want to start with (If you're Zack, you get Cloud, then Julius. If you're Julius, you get Zack, then Cloud. If you're Cloud, you get Julius, then Zack.) If you chose Zack: Zack wakes up in a grassy plain surrounded by weird creatures who seem to have the same crystal as him. As he tries to attack them, the crystals blocks his path. Finally giving up, he is not sure what to do, until he start to try and imitate what they are doing, unintentionally learning a new skill, the Block. Noticing he learned how to do it, the creatures let him pass for some reason. Passing, Zack explored through the plains to find Cloud, who is being attacked by a large bird beast. Helping him defeat it, Zack and Cloud now look for Julius. While looking around for their friend, Zack and Cloud notice Darkos and some of his troopers looking around for Zack, Cloud, and Julius. Accidentally being discovered, the two run off and run into Julius, who was looking for them. Cornered, the three attack Darkos and the troopers, defeating them. As they celebrate their victory, Darkos quickly recovers and fires a plasma beam at each of them, paralyzing them. Darkos then revives his fallen troopers has them knock the trio out and send them on a ship to After Earth. If you chose Julius: Julius wakes up on a rocky mountain that is inhabited by fox like creatures. Having no way to get around due to the platforming and such, Julius notices that the fox creatures seem to turn into clouds to move around the mountain faster and reach higher platforms and such. Learning to mimic them, Julius is able to explore around and look for his friends. Finding Zack being attacked by a grass monster, Julius helps him defeat it as they search for Cloud. While looking around for their friend, Julius and Zack notice Darkos and some of his troopers looking around for them. Accidentally being discovered, the two run off and run into Cloud, who was looking for them. Cornered, the three attack Darkos and his troopers, defeating them. As they celebrate their victory, Darkos quickly recovers and fires a plasma beam at each of them, paralyzing them. Darkos then revives his fallen troopers has them knock the trio out and send them on a ship to After Earth.

Captured by Darkos's men, left to die on a mysterious planet alternate to Earth, and scattered across said planet, things do not look good for the trio. Zack wakes up first, trapped in some kind of box with walls all around him, feeling very light, even with the crystal on his back. He tries attacking the wall with the crystal, but it shatters instantly. He then tries punching it, and it would usually make a dent if anyone else punched it with the exception of Zack. He sat down, powerless and not knowing what to do. Julius comes around in a room surrounded by beings that look exactly like him. They ask him a question: Who is the most flawless person? Every time he answers wrong, he is electrocuted. Julius answers wrong multiple times and is shocked again and again until he loses consciousness from the sheer pain. Cloud wakes up last, in a battle with Bane. He tries to defeat him, but is easily beaten himself. Bane starts to taunt Cloud as he tries to get up, but falls back down, defeated. The player takes turns with Zack, Cloud, and Julius as each hero is teleported into a large maze filled with puzzles and enemies. As they progress, they toughen up and grow stronger, able to overcome the obstacles from before. Zack breaks through the wall by thinking outside of the box, Julius finally finds out the answer: nobody, and Cloud defeats Bane by using his head. Then the three are reunited and the planet's illusions wear off, revealing that After Earth is a plain of nothingness that feeds off people's minds. Without their fears and worries to survive on, the planet begins to crumble and implode on itself.

Zack, Cloud, and Julius teleport onto a small cargo ship at the last second, quickly overpowering all of the crew members. Thinking up a plan, they decide to take down each ship one by one by having Zack teleport them onto each ship and activating the self-destruct mechanism until they get to the last one. Moving on from their, the trio take down each ship and have them self destruct, Darkos and his troops not noticing until it is too late and most of his fleet being destroyed. Finally landing on the main ship which has Darkos on it, the three confront him, Darkos sending the rest of his troops on the ship at Cloud, Zack, and Julius. After the ensuring battle, Darkos sends a psychic message to Cloud, giving him two options. Seeing Cloud as one of the strongest in the trio, and the most strongest overall, Darkos gives him a choice to either "join the dark side" or "die trying to defeat me." It can go both ways, as the player can select either option, but the canonical option is the Hero side. There is one more ending that can be seen, but you must choose the Bad ending to get it.

Good Ending: Darkos taunts Cloud for his choice, then escapes the ship through an escape pod. Sending the ship down to Earth, the three notice that Darkos destroyed the landing buttons on the control panel. They then decide to crash land it, having a heartfelt goodbye, thinking that they will die in the process. The ship crash lands on Earth in Fowler City, destroying most of it. Surprisingly, Zack, Cloud, and Julius survive the crash, exiting the ship's ruins mostly unharmed due to Zack's Crystal Protection move. Darkos's escape pod crash lands near them as a crowd starts to form near the ship. As the crowd looks at the trio, confused and such, Darkos strikes, attacking the three. After the intense final battle, Darkos is on the ground defeated as he looks up to the three, astonished at what had happened. He starts whining about why didn't he defeat the trio until his Magical Stone of Foresight floats out of the ship and explains to him why he had lost; He didn't let the stone finish. He would never be able to beat the trio because....that's just the way it was. Darkos, angered beyond reasoning, attempts to self-destruct himself and destroy the Earth, but is then shot right in the head by something..or someone. The story ends with the Stone wiping the memory of everyone involved except the trio before vanishing. Cloud, Julius, and Zack leave, going off to celebrate their victory with ice cream and cake.

Bad Ending: Darkos compliments Cloud on his choice and the trio decide to crash land the ship. The ship crash lands on Earth in Fowler City, destroying most of it. Surprisingly, Zack, Cloud, and Julius survive the crash, exiting the ship's ruins mostly unharmed due to Zack's Crystal Protection attack. Darkos's escape pod crash lands near them as a crowd starts to form near the ship. a horribly injured Darkos exiting. As Zack and Julius walk over to finish him off, Cloud gets in their way and swings his blade, making them jump back a bit. After explaining why he was defending Darkos, Cloud attacks his former friends in an intense final battle. After defeating the two, Cloud cuts Julius's arms off and chokes Zack to death. Darkos slowly gets up, saying "You have done well, my apprentice..." Cloud smirks and bows before his new Master as the crowd looks on, confused and afraid. After the credits, it is shown that Cloud and Darkos have taken over what remains of the city, Darkos having called up more forces. Cloud sits at the top of a skyscraper, holding a picture of him and his two friends. Taking one last look, he crumples it and throws it away into a trash can.
